Children’s Home Society in Sioux Falls, SD is currently seeking a Food Service Coordinator to supervise the operation of the kitchen; children’s dietary needs as well as a supervisor of dining staff.
What You’ll Do:
Your responsibilities as a Food Service Coordinator:
- Program Budget: Project monthly meal requirements while staying within the budget.
- Special Events: Order and coordinate pick-up of groceries and items for special requests. Stock residence buildings with supplemental food items. Plan special events and ensure holiday meals have a “festive touch”.
- Equipment Management: Maintain equipment in proper working order. Inform Facilities Supervisor of needed repairs. Complete bi-annual inventory of food and supplies. Prepare equipment specifications and solicit bids for new equipment as needed.
- Inventory Management: Complete annual inventory of food.
- Food Handling: Plan menus with consulting dietician including any changes. Oversee ordering of food, preparation of meals and snacks. Fulfill menu requirements and serve meals. Cover, label and date all suitable leftovers for storage.
- Cleaning Duties: Wash pots and pans, trays, dishes, etc. Take out kitchen trash to outside trash bins.
- Compliance: Take and record food temperatures at mealtime. Take and record refrigerator, freezer and dishwashing machine temperatures. Maintain necessary documentation including school lunch program paperwork. Prepare production sheets and customer counts for reimbursement.
- Cleanliness: Maintain personal cleanliness. Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen and storage areas.
- Team Management: Assist in hiring dining staff. Maintain staff schedules. Train, coach and direct cooks. Facilitate team meetings as required. Conduct performance reviews.
- Professional Development: Participate in required in-service training. Participate in Quality Improvement as assigned. Plan yearly training calendar.

Schedule: Monday-Friday daytime hours, but flexible schedule with some evening and weekend work required. 40 hours/week.
Compensation: $41,000-$50,000 (Depending on Education/Experience)

Requirements
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma required. Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant experience in food service.
- Licenses: ServSafe Certification required or obtained within 30 days of employment
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires standing for extended periods of time. Exposure to tools, utensils, equipment, and cleaning materials, requiring attentive and safe utilization.
