We are seeking a seasonal employee like you to provide support to the watermelon breeding and product development team. The intern will work with research and breeding programs to learn techniques and decision-making criteria as it relates to vegetable hybrid/cultivar development.
Hours: Approx 40 hrs/wk. But may be more depending on activities that happen. May be less hours (depending on activity load)
Essential Duties Include, but are not Limited to:
• Assist in breeding programs and product development with field phenotyping and data capture
• Assist in harvest and yield data collection
• Help to execute greenhouse planting and on farm field trial execution, observation, and evaluation
• Able to regularly lift 50 lbs.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with watermelon production or ability to learn.
Excellent attention to detail.
Methodical and thorough working habits.
Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and managers at all times.
Work well under pressure in order to meet multiple, and sometimes, competing deadlines.
Ability to bend, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in field under varying conditions & ability to walk several miles per day.
A valid drivers license and availability for overnight trips
