Objective: To help promote Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard (KOVE) while learning skills related to orchard operations. All KOVE interns will receive cross-training in multiple areas and must be open to other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 40-45 hours per week; some event and weekends required; flexibility available
Wage: $14/hour; generous employee discount

Planned Projects:
Ø Visualize and plan out new landscaping options for the Kimmel gardens.
Ø Assist with the development of new plantings and trellis systems
Ø Update and create a new map of current landscape layout including the nature trail
Ø Assist in planting floral beds around the property with plant identifiers
Ø Communicate with UNL Bee Lab to maintain healthy pollinators
Ø Assist in Apple Barn retail operations
Ø Photography of orchard events and landscapes
Eligibility and Preferred Skills:
Ø Students interested in alternative agronomy, landscape, horticulture, and/or other plant sciences
Ø Highly motivated in finding information and answers
Ø Ability to prioritize/execute and achieve desired project goals
Ø High level of communication skills and an initiative to learn
Ø Efficient in landscape management and knowledge of plant varietals
Ø 19 years of age preferable
Responsibilities:
Ø Mowing, planting, harvesting, and overall landscape layout of all Kimmel surrounding gardens, including the landscape around the Kimmel house.
Ø Maintenance of the educational trail system located throughout the property
§ Weed control
§ Planting of all flower beds
§ Applying wood chips as needed
Ø Conduct soil sampling
Ø Assist with planting and harvesting
Ø Assist with tours of the orchard over the summer
