The Nebraska Resource Project for Vulnerable Young Children (the “Project”) provides systemic and case level support to court and system practitioners to address the needs of very young children who have been maltreated by their parents or guardians. The early years of a child’s life are some of the most critical in ensuring his or her social, cognitive and emotional well-being. However, the developmental needs of children involved in the child welfare system, who frequently suffer from trauma, toxic stress, and/or chronic neglect, are often overlooked due to the parents’ needs, systems complexity and other issues. In Nebraska, maltreated young children too often do not have their social-emotional needs addressed, do not attend high quality child care, and do not participate in evidence-based interventions like home visiting and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP).
