The Power of Preparation: Hailey Abler’s Journey from Intern to a Role at Kiewit

“It is extremely important to meet with Career Coaches so you can get one-on-one feedback and be truly prepared for the workforce after college,” said Hailey Abler.

Abler, a recent UNL grad who majored in Marketing with a certificate in Sales Excellence, is now starting her career with Kiewit as an Engineering Project Controller for the Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Group in Colorado.

This position, however, did not just fall into her lap. Throughout her college career, Hailey was constantly working on her future career path. Abler met with Career Coaches at the Business Career Center, became the president of UNL’s professional development fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, and then first began an internship with Kiewit as a Business Intern.

“I found my internship with Kiewit through a connection with a former member of Alpha Kappa Psi who had come and talked to our chapter. I handed him my resume and was offered the internship a couple of weeks later,” said Abler. “I loved my internship with Kiewit. They provided me with a mentor and helped prepare me as much as possible for a possible future position.”

Outside of her work with Kiewit, Hailey was also a member of our own Career Services office.

“At Career Services, I was an Employer Development Intern. I loved working at Career Services. The office was truly a family and helped me develop and build my skills professionally as well as learn about the company culture I wanted to be a part of in the future,” said Abler.

We are wishing Hailey all the best in her new position and future career!
