“Whether you are looking for internships, jobs, networking tips, resume review, cover letter tips, or just need general advice in terms of your future career, the Career Coaches across campus are an amazing resource for any student,” said UNL student Skylar Reestman.

Reestman, a junior majoring in Advertising/Public Relations with a minor in Hospitality, Restaurant, and Tourism Management, is no stranger when it comes to career development.

Skylar has already had several internship experiences over her college career, with one of her most recent being right here in the Career Services office as our Employer Development Intern!

“I loved my time as an intern at UNL Career Services. I learned so much about professional communication, the backend of Handshake, planning for Career Fairs, and the process of how recruiters connect with students and vice versa. I also loved being in a work environment where I didn’t just have colleagues, but friends,” said Reestman.

We loved having Skylar on our team, and we have no doubt she’s going to do great things in the future.

Reestman also recently scored a great opportunity at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce as their Marketing and Programs Intern! There, she creates social media content and other communication pieces promoting events and program announcements.

“I had no expectations of being offered this role, but I decided to take the opportunity. Even if I wasn’t offered the internship, taking opportunities to practice going through the interview process and connecting with professionals is extremely important,” said Reestman. “I enjoy learning more about the Lincoln community as a whole and helping with the planning of our events and seeing them through. I also found the importance of feeling valued as an intern. Working with a team that appreciates your work and strives to help you grow and learn as a professional is extremely important as an intern.”

To help her prepare for these interviews, Skylar has met with a Career Coach in the past and utilizes many of the Career Services resources.

“I would 100% recommend Career Services to any current student! They have great resources for internships and jobs, like the UNL Job Search Guide, and have great tips and tricks for resumes, cover letters, networking skills, and so much more,” said Reestman.

Outside of her studies and internships, Skylar was involved with the Jacht agency last spring as an Account Executive and has also volunteered at Campus Nightlife events.
