“I recommend utilizing career coaches because they are so helpful!”
Jodi Soptic is a junior studying Advertising & Public Relations and Journalism with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. Since August 2024, Jodi has been working as a social media intern for First Generation Nebraska.
As a social media intern, Jodi is responsible for posting on the First Gen Nebraska’s Instagram. She creates content to highlight current trends, on campus events and student tips for success.
“I have loved this internship so much! I have learned a lot about social media management and content management. My favorite thing about this position is creative freedom. I have been able to experiment with different things and find what works best for First Gen Nebraska's socials,” said Jodi.
Jodi was able to land this internship by checking out The Career Bulletin, a weekly newsletter that career coach, Natalie Becerra, sends out to College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC) students. Jodi also credits Natalie as a source of support and direction in her career development.
“I needed help with updating my resume to search for internships and [Natalie] gave me good feedback. Natalie also has helped me with internship searches; she knows my skills and how I can best execute them,” said Jodi.
Jodi aspires to work in social media and advertising. Although she is not quite certain in which direction she wants to take, she hopes to do something creatively while combining her love for journalism.
Outside of her internship, Jodi is involved in the Daily Nebraskan as a culture reporter and the CoJMC as a peer mentor for first-year students and a college ambassador.
