“The University faculty and staff have been great resources for me if I ever have any questions about jobs or need someone to look at materials when it comes to applications.”

Teresa Tran-Le is a senior majoring in Nutrition and Health Sciences. This summer, she is interning at the Environmental Health Division of Washtenaw County Health Department through the CDC Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP) at the University of Michigan. As an intern, she performs research, conducts surveys, and shadows different staff to get hands-on experiences from different sections of the Health Department.

When it comes to utilizing on-campus resources for career development, Teresa is no stranger.

“The Career Coaches at CEHS have helped me by giving me advice, while utilizing the Job and Internship Search Guide, on how to revise my resume, prepare me for interviews, as well as teaching me networking skills, "said Teresa.

She also credits her Academic Advisor, Natasha Crawford, and Sociology Professor Dr. Amelia Li for their support in navigating the application process and securing the internship.

During her internship, she looks forward to making professional connections and collaborating with a cohort of other students.

“I am excited to be able to learn from amazing individuals in the program and be able to improve my skills within the workforce. I am also excited to be able to present my work and see my cohort's work at the CDC Showcase in Atlanta at the end of the program!” said Teresa.

Outside of her studies, Teresa is involved in Vietnamese Student Association, Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc., Multicultural Greek Council, and Order of Omega. She aspires to further her education in Public Health and continues to advocate for those who are underserved and facing health disparities within the community.
