Inclement Weather Policy

Our Inclement Weather Policy is established to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) during severe weather conditions. Inclement weather includes but is not limited to severe snowstorms, icy conditions, extreme cold temperatures, and other weather-related emergencies that may pose a threat to the safety of individuals on campus. University Career Services (UCS) will maintain regular operations as long as UNL remains open. In the event that UNL should close, all UCS operations will also be cancelled. Information regarding closures or delays will be communicated by email as early as possible, and prominently displayed on both the UNL and UCS official website homepages, unl.edu and careers.unl.edu. We will provide a full refund, less a $50 administration fee of any registration fees paid, or the option to apply full registration fees toward participation in a future career fair, in the event of a cancellation.

Prepare for the Day

  1. Promote your openings: Post your jobs on Handshake and link them to your fair registration so students can view them in advance. Need help? Here's how to post a job and how to link it to your registration.
  2. Prepare for the day: Expect a busy, energetic environment. Dress comfortably, stay hydrated, and review last year's fair statistics to help you prepare.
  3. Follow up easily: Capture student information easily using the Handshake QR code at your booth. Students who check in will have their information automatically sent to you after the fair. You can also download it later, here's how.
  4. Help students engage: Students appreciate meeting representatives at all levels but may be unsure how to start. Encourage your team to introduce themselves and initiate conversations.
  5. Stay in the loop: Add handshake@mail.joinhandshake.com as a safe sender in your email. Important event communications will be sent from this address as the fair approaches, and you won’t want to miss them!

Local Hotels & Accommodations

Since we are located right in Downtown Lincoln, you will be close to a variety of hotels, all within walking distance to campus. Head to the link below for a list of accommodations.

During the Fair

Welcome, Unloading & Parking

EAST Campus Unloading & Check-In Instructions (9/17):

Starting at 9:30AM, employers with multiple participating reps can pull up outside of the Entomology Hall (1700 E Campus Mall) to unload any passengers and booth materials. Parking permits are valid for the 37th and Fair Street parking lot. If full, use Hardin Hall Area A. You will need to register your vehicle's license plate before you arrive with UNL Parking Services.  Code to preregister for a parking pass will be available closer to the fair. If your vehicle is not registered or you park in a different lot, any parking citations received will be the employer’s responsibility.

After parking, walk to the Nebraska East Union and make your way to the Great Plains room on the second floor. See the Nebraska East Union floorplan here.

CITY Campus Unloading & Check-In Instructions (9/22 - 9/24):

Starting at 9:30AM, employers with multiple participating reps can pull up in front of the Nebraska Union (1400 R St. Lincoln NE 68588) to unload any passengers and booth materials. The Larson Building Parking Garage (1317 Q St, Lincoln, NE 68508) is the closest parking option. If it’s full, any Park & Go garage will be validated. Parking validations will be provided upon check in.

Using the stairs facing R St. or the ramp on the west side of the building, enter the Union and proceed to the Centennial Room on the second floor (stairs and elevators are located inside). See the Union floorplan here.

Booth Placement Details

Booths are placed on a first-paid, first-served basis. The best way to get the best booth spot is to settle your invoice asap. If you believe you will have problems doing so, please contact Career Services to come up with a plan.

Collect Student Information

We offer the option to utilize the Handshake In-person Booth Check-in system. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Receive Your Unique Handshake QR Code

  • Each participating organization will receive a unique QR code for their booth. You do not need to print off your QR code ahead of time.  We will have them for you at your table.

Step 2: Student Check-In

  • When students approach your booth, invite them to scan your QR code to "check-in." It never hurts to double check that they've completed the process before they leave your booth.

Step 3: Post-Fair Benefits

  • After the fair, students will receive a list of the employers they visited.
  • Your designated representative for this fair will receive a list of the students who checked into your booth.

This streamlined process benefits both students and employers by providing valuable information about their fair connections. While not mandatory, we encourage you to utilize this new feature. If you have another way you prefer to capture student information, you are welcome to use it. We encourage students to print out their resumes to share with employers at the fair. If you cannot accept a paper resume or prefer not to, it is your responsibility to communicate that preference to our students.

Employer Lunch & Lounge

Employer Lunch:

Day 1 (Sept. 17, East Campus):
Each participating representative will receive a lunch ticket for the East Campus Dining Center, located on the bottom floor of the East Union. Due to space limitations, career fair employers will be asked to use to-go containers to put their selections in. Then, employers will take their selections up to the Prairie Suite on the 3rd floor (space specifically reserved for career fair employers). Eating utensils and napkins will be located in the Prairie Suite.

Days 2-4 (Sept. 22-24, City Campus):

Each participating representative will be served a lunch buffet in the Employer Lounge. Lunch will be available from 11:30 AM - 1 PM.

Employer Lounge:

For all career fair days, a dedicated space will be reserved exclusively for employers. This lounge will include refreshments and tables and is intended as a place to take a break, attend to work needs, or enjoy a quiet moment (including space for phone calls).

Day 1 (Sept. 18, East Campus): The Garden Room, located directly outside of the Career Fair space.

Days 2-5 (Sept. 22-25, City Campus): The Regency Suite, go out the career fair entrance, continue through the rotunda, then take a right at the spiral staircase.

Photography Policy

Photography is permitted at the career fair to capture positive moments, but attendees should be considerate of comfort levels, avoid actions increasing pressure on students during interactions with employers, and ensure open aisles for student movement due to the crowded space.

After the Fair

Post-Fair Pick-Up

If you are needing assistance with bringing your items downstairs to the loading zone, please pack up your items, fill out the label provided on your table and place it on your items. This will alert staff to bring your items to the loading zone, same location as the unloading zone in the morning.

Shipping Booth Materials

Please note: It is the employer’s responsibility to contact your shipping provider to schedule pickup of your materials. We’re happy to hold your packages and provide a convenient drop-off location, but shipping arrangements must be made directly by your team.

Day 1 (Sept. 17, East Campus):

After the fair, take your packed materials to Room 331 in the Nebraska East Union (one floor above the event). There will be stations for you to drop off your already-packed displays to be picked up at your scheduled time.

Days 2-4 (Sept. 22-24, City Campus):

After the fair, take your packed materials to the Career Services Office (Nebraska Union, Room 225). There we will have stations for you to drop off your already-packed displays to be picked up at your scheduled time.

Attending the Next Fair Day

Attending the next day:

Career Fair staff at the Help Desk (next to Employer Check-In) can help you confirm your booth location for the following day. If you’re in the same spot, you’re welcome to leave your display up. If your booth is moving, please pack up and relocate your materials — you can set up that evening or the next morning.

Attending Non-consecutive days:

We can store your materials between fair days.

  • Day 1 (Sept. 17, East Campus): Bring packed displays to the Career Services Info Desk near check-in. Staff will label and route them to your next fair day.
  • Days 2-5 (Sept 22-24, City Campus): Drop off packed displays in the Career Services Office, Room 225.

Post-Fair Interviews

Day-After Interviews on Day 1 (Sept. 17, East Campus):

Please contact Stephanie Osterthun for details about East Campus interview options.

Day-After Interviews on Days 2-5 (Sept. 22-24, City Campus):

Due to limited space, we unfortunately cannot offer all employers access to day-after interview space following these fairs. We encourage you to host interviews virtually or off-campus at times that work best for you and your candidates. If you are interested in on-campus space, please contact Career Services, as availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
