Inclement Weather Policy

Our Inclement Weather Policy is established to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) during severe weather conditions. Inclement weather includes but is not limited to severe snowstorms, icy conditions, extreme cold temperatures, and other weather-related emergencies that may pose a threat to the safety of individuals on campus. University Career Services (UCS) will maintain regular operations as long as UNL remains open. In the event that UNL should close, all UCS operations will also be cancelled. Information regarding closures or delays will be communicated by email as early as possible, and prominently displayed on both the UNL and UCS official website homepages, unl.edu and careers.unl.edu. We will provide a full refund, less a $50 administration fee of any registration fees paid, or the option to apply full registration fees toward participation in a future career fair, in the event of a cancellation.

Shipping Booth Materials

If you are choosing to ship packages to UNL ahead of the fair, please schedule them to arrive no earlier than Monday, February 10.

If you are shipping to City Campus for the Education Career Fair (Feb. 24), send packages to:

Prepare for the Day

  1. Make sure your jobs are posted on Handshake and attached to your fair registration! Students will be able to see these before the fair. For more information on how to post, view our website.
    1. If you are having a hard time updating your career fair registration, here is a guide to help.
  2. Connect with students via Handshake or LinkedIn to let them know you're coming and would love to meet with them. Be as intentional as possible as students are often turned off by what appears to be a mass message!
  3. Mentally prep for a long day of standing and talking with the vast amount of students who come into our fair each day. The more engaging you are in pulling them into your table, the better conversations you'll have.
    1. We're lucky to have busy career fairs, which means the venue can get warm and loud. Please prepare accordingly, and take advantage of our Employer Lounge for a break when you need it.
  4. Have a plan on how to capture student information. You can use the Career Services-provided Handshake QR code or bring your own system.
    1. We know not every employer wants printed resumes. We still encourage students to bring printed materials as each employer has unique contact preferences. Feel free to turn down the print version in favor of your own digital collection system.

Local Hotels & Accommodations

Since we are located right in Downtown Lincoln, you will be close to a variety of hotels, all within walking distance to campus. Head to the link below for a list of accommodations.

Local Accommodations

During the Fair

Welcome, Unloading & Parking

PLEAST NOTE: Due to the prediction of inclement weather, we will not be offering staff-assisted unloading services for our spring fairs.

CITY Campus Unloading & Check In Instructions (Feb. 24):

Employers with multiple participating reps can pull up in front of the Nebraska Union (1400 R St. Lincoln NE 68588) to unload any passengers with booth materials. The Larson Building Parking Garage at 1317 Q St, Lincoln, NE 68508 is the closest lot to the Union. Parking validations will be provided upon check in. Recruiters attending solo needing assistance, please contact us at (402) 472-3145 with questions.

  • Using the stairs that face R St. or the ramp on the West side of the building, enter the Union.
  • Make your way to the second floor via stairs or elevators conveniently located inside.
  • Find Employer Check-In, located in front of the Centennial Room on the second floor. See the Union floorplan here.

Booth Placement Details

Booths are placed on a first-paid, first-served basis. The best way to get the best booth spot is to settle your invoice asap. If you believe you will have problems doing so, please contact Career Services to come up with a plan.

Career Fair Booth Maps:

If you are unable to locate your organization on the map, it might be temporarily hidden due to an unpaid invoice. Please review your registration to ensure payment has been remitted. Questions, please contact Career Services.

Collect Student Information

We offer the option to utilize the Handshake In-person Booth Check-in system. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Receive Your Unique Handshake QR Code

  • Each participating organization will receive a unique QR code for their booth. You do not need to print off your QR code ahead of time.  We will have them for you at your table.

Step 2: Student Check-In

  • When students approach your booth, invite them to scan your QR code to "check-in." It never hurts to double check that they've completed the process before they leave your booth.

Step 3: Post-Fair Benefits

  • After the fair, students will receive a list of the employers they visited.
  • Your designated representative for this fair will receive a list of the students who checked into your booth.

This streamlined process benefits both students and employers by providing valuable information about their fair connections. While not mandatory, we encourage you to utilize this new feature. If you have another way you prefer to capture student information, you are welcome to use it. We encourage students to print out their resumes to share with employers at the fair. If you cannot accept a paper resume or prefer not to, it is your responsibility to communicate that preference to our students.

Wi-Fi Access

Career participants can access free Wi-Fi by selecting NU Guest and logging in with the following credentials:

Education (Feb. 24):

  • Name: 2025 Spring Edu Fair
  • Password: Huskers1

Employer Lunch & Lounge

Employer Lunch:

Education (Feb. 24, City Campus):

Each participating representative will receive a lunch ticket to eat at one of our Nebraska Union vendors (Subway, Imperial Palace, Valentino’s, Steak & Shake, and Chick-fil-A). If you choose not to eat in the Union, downtown restaurants are within walking distance. Lunch tickets are not valid at off-campus restaurants or Starbucks in the Union.

Employer Lounge:

For all career fair days, we will have space reserved that is solely for employers. This space will include snacks, water, and tables for you to take a break and take care of whatever you may need, even if that's just personal time for yourself or a quiet space to take a phone call!

Education Career Fair (Feb. 24): West side of the Centennial Room

Photography Policy

Photography is permitted at the career fair to capture positive moments, but attendees should be considerate of comfort levels, avoid actions increasing pressure on students during interactions with employers, and ensure open aisles for student movement due to the crowded space.

After the Fair

Post-Fair Pick-Up

PLEAST NOTE: Due to the prediction of inclement weather, we will not be offering post-fair pick-up services after these events.

Shipping Booth Materials

Education Career Fair (Feb 24, City Campus):

Once the fair concludes, you'll take your packages to the Career Services Office (Nebraska Union, room 225). There we will have stations for you to drop off your already-packed displays to be picked up at your scheduled time. While we are happy to hold your packages for you and provide an easy pick-up spot, it is your responsibility to call your shipping provider and schedule a pick-up of your belongings.

Attending the Next Fair Day

Attending the next day:

Career Fair staff at the Help Desk (next to the Employer Check-in Station) will have access to the following day's map to help you double check your next day booth location. If you are staying in your same booth location the next day, you will be able to leave your display up in whatever capacity works best for you. If your booth is moving, please pack up and move your belongings to your new booth. You will be able to set it up that night or just leave it to set up for the morning.

Attending Non-consecutive days:

If you are attending non-consecutive days of the career fairs, we are able to store your materials for you in the interim.

  • Days 2-4, Education (Feb 19-21, 24, City Campus): Please pack up your display and drop it off with a staff member in the Career Services office, Room 225.

Post-Fair Interviews

Day-After Interviews for Education Fair (Feb. 24, City Campus):

For our City Campus fairs, please plan to host any interviews virtually or off-campus at times that work best for you and your candidates. Due to space constraints, we unfortunately will not be able to offer all employers access to day-after interview space following these fairs. Limited, on-campus space will be available for our Husker Circle Champion and Scarlet members only – first-come, first-served.

Career Fair Feedback

We would love for you to provide your feedback once the fair concludes. An evaluation will be sent out to all of those who checked-in for the career fair. If you do not receive an evaluation, please reach out to us at careerservices@unl.edu.
