Erica Napuli is a graduating senior majoring in advertising and public relations with a minor in French. This May, she will wrap up her role as the social media and communications intern at UNL’s Career Services office.
As a social media intern, Erica creates a variety of content, from video tutorials to digital graphics, for online platforms such as Instagram, Tik Tok and LinkedIn. She also writes feature stories for the website that spotlight Huskers and their achievements.
“I enjoyed the creative challenge this internship provided me with, pushing me to think outside of the box. It was also rewarding overall, knowing that the content I created was aimed to help students with career success,” said Erica.
She also emphasized the essential career skills she built as an intern.
“I have strengthened my professional communication, collaboration and organizational skills. I have learned a lot about strategizing and working within a brand, which will provide me with a strong foundation when I enter the advertising and public relations industry,” Erica said. “I have also gotten plenty of exposure to overall professional development and the behind-the-scenes of events and logistics while working in the office.”
After reflecting on her college experience, Erica offers this piece of advice to fellow students.
“My biggest takeaway is the importance of making the most out of every opportunity. I have been able to discover new passions, strengths and have met some of the best people by stepping outside of my comfort zone,” said Erica.
Erica encourages current students to take advantage of every opportunity, and her resume backs that up. She has been involved academically as a College of Journalism and Mass Communications peer mentor, a member of the Honors Program and an Order of Omega honoree, and has stayed active in the community through her leadership in organizations such as the Asian Student Union and Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.
While Erica hasn’t finalized plans for after graduation, she remains open to new experiences and opportunities. She hopes to apply her skills in content creation and strategic communication in a role that promotes a larger mission.
“My career goals involve working in strategy for a brand that makes an impact. I want my work to inspire others,” Erica said. “Eventually, I hope to become a director of advertising or public relations.”
