Naomi Delkamiller is a senior double majoring in journalism and advertising and public relations with a minor in digital humanities. This May, she is wrapping up her internship with Flatwater Free Press, where she currently serves as a social media intern.

As a social media intern, Naomi is in charge of managing Flatwater’s 8 different social media platforms. Successfully, she launched Flatwater’s TikTok account, garnering 1,000 followers in just a month and even created its most-liked Facebook post to date. She also helped develop and create a newsletter subscription and donor campaign.

“This role has shown me that there’s a strong demand for news and information, and it’s crucial to understand how people engage with and consume this content,” said Naomi.

Naomi was a regular attendee of the on-campus career fairs and an avid career resource user throughout her time as an undergrad. Still, she recognizes the importance of career exploration and networking to build upon her professional experience.

“I’ve attended the on-campus career fair every year, even when I wasn’t actively job hunting, simply to explore and learn more about the companies that were hiring. This always led to good conversations and new connections,” said Naomi.  “I also read the career bulletin email newsletter published by the college of journalism every time it lands in my inbox!”

Naomi’s career journey will be continuing right after graduation, as she will start as an inaugural fellow at the NPR Midwest Newsroom where she will spend a year on an investigative journalism project. Ultimately, her career goal is to be a creative director in a newsroom, hoping to blend traditional journalism with new media to reach new audiences.

Naomi is a member of Mortar Board and writes for the DailyER. She is also the former Nebraska Student Alumni Association homecoming coordinator and ASUN College of Journalism Senator. Naomi has also written for the Nebraska News Service and the Flatwater Free Press.
