Whether you're looking for a salty snack or considering your future career, McCain Foods is a name to know. As a global leader in frozen foods, McCain is also a proud partner and sponsor of Career Services at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

What started as a small family business in New Brunswick, Canada, has grown into a global brand providing frozen foods to more than 160 countries. Locally, its facility in Grand Island is the largest onion ring production plant in McCain's global network.

“At our Grand Island plant, the McCain culture thrives on teamwork, pride and a passion for quality,” said McCain. “It reflects our global values while celebrating the local spirit that goes into crafting our signature onion rings for tables around the world.”

In addition to onion rings, McCain produces one in four fries worldwide and is the largest manufacturer of frozen potato products. But the company isn't just feeding the world, it's supporting the career development of UNL students every day.

“We offer exciting internship opportunities for students looking to gain real-world experience, and we actively participate in the Senior Design Capstone projects with both the mechanical engineering and computing departments,” McCain said. “We also have several full-time post-graduation roles available through our Leadership Development Rotational Program in production and operations management, designed to launch students' careers and develop future leaders.”

McCain hires students from a variety of fields, including engineering, manufacturing operations, supply chain, food science, agriculture and business, but the company looks for more than just academic knowledge.

“We seek applicants who demonstrate a strong combination of academic achievement, practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn. Community involvement and leadership experience are important, as they reflect a commitment to collaboration and social responsibility,” said McCain. “We value candidates who show initiative, integrity, and a drive to contribute meaningfully to our team and the broader community.”

Students, interns, and recent graduates are at the core of McCain’s continuing growth and innovation. The company's active partnership with UNL provides young professionals with opportunities to develop their skills and explore career paths within a global organization.

“We deeply value the fresh perspectives, creativity and enthusiasm that students bring to our organization. By hiring students, we not only invest in the next generation of talent but also foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration,” McCain said. “We believe that empowering students with real-world experience benefits both their personal growth and the future of our company.”

Through mentorship, hands-on experience and industry exposure, McCain Foods turns potential into professional success. Students gain the chance to work with a company that contributes to their career development, while also valuing their ideas and hard work.

“Students who join us are empowered to make a real impact, both within our company and in the communities we serve,” said McCain. “Above all, we believe in fostering a workplace where curiosity, integrity, and teamwork are celebrated every day.”
