Welcoming Plan Intern

Description

  • Intern will learn how Welcoming work is being done in Lincoln
  • Intern will assist Welcoming Communities Coordinator with the New Nebraskans Book Project by collecting, recording, and transcribing the stories of immigrants and refugees in Lincoln
  • Intern may connect with potential contributors to provide information about the book project and invite participation
  • Intern will assist with community events that cultivate relationships with contributors and potential contributors to advance the book project

Community Resource Coordination Intern

Description: The project for this intern would entail updating a statewide resource guide utilized by direct support staff while working with Better Living clients and enhancing our database and communication of these resources to the employees.

Task will include

  • Researching available human service resources in the 93 counties of Nebraska
  • Organizing a data base of all current and new resources
  • Development of a quarterly resource news letter for all Better Living Employees
  • Participation in our Community Resource Workgroup
  • Developing highlights for regular communication of available resource in different service area
  • Be the point of contact for employees to suggest new resources for the data base

Museum Intern in the Eloise Kruger Gallery of Miniatures

Description: To assist with the cataloguing, photography, 3d digitization and conservation of the Kruger Collection miniatures and library. https://krugercollection.unl.edu.

The collection consists of more than 20,000 objects out of which we have catalogued only about 2500. The interns will assist with all the processes of cataloguing objects. Doing data entry, photography and learn how to create 360 image scans for the creation of a virtual museum. The interns will also be introduced on how to design and possibly create a miniature exhibit along with participating on a gallery opening. For this fall, the E. N. Thomson series speaker is the renowned author Amy Tan. The gallery will focus on creating themed dioramas featuring her work and the interns will participate in all stages of this exhibit up to the opening. They will also get to meet the author and receive signed book copies.

Textile Collections Intern

Description: Interns in the IQM collections department will work with the world's largest publicly held collection of quilts and other textiles. Each day looks a little different-- organizing collections storage spaces, accessioning new acquisitions into the collection, condition reporting loaned objects, helping to prepare for exhibitions, participating in preventative conservation of historic textiles, and many other projects.

Interns will work primarily with collections staff, other students, and collections volunteers, but will also have the opportunity to interact with other IQM staff, guests, and visitors of all ages. No prior knowledge of or experience with textiles, quilting, sewing, or museums is necessary for this position-- just willingness to learn!

Peace+Civility Program Intern

Description: The College of Law trains law students to become lawyers and leaders who disagree respectfully. The ability to express and hear differing opinions is needed now more than ever. During the fall semester, primarily leading up to the November 5 election, the College of Law will provide programming opportunities and discussions and create content to help students understand the importance is respectful disagreement. College of Law faculty and administrators and other specialists from across campus will provide their expertise.

The intern will support the development and implementation of the program, including:

  • Maintaining a calendar or record of all associated programming and events
  • Helping to brainstorm and develop content
  • Promoting programs and sharing content with student organizations and departments across campus via email
  • Identifying potential campus partners

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be familiar with student life and/or organizations on campus. They have helped come up with ideas for an event/program or have been exposed to an event planning process in some way. Candidates should have an interest in the law, politics, or related topics. SNAP Outreach & Education Intern

Description: Goal: To learn more about food insecurity in our community, specifically within the UNL student population, and create relationship-building avenues. On-campus collaboration and assist in brainstorming and testing what channels of outreach work best to reach students. This internship will help build the foundation for other interns to build a pilot that will be replicated in other colleges and universities across our 16-county service area.

Tasks:

  • Meet the Food Bank staff and engage specifically with SNAP Outreach Coordinators
  • Research student population SNAP knowledge and UNL staff knowledge
  • Populate database to keep research up to date and available to Food Bank Staff (Google Drive)
  • Research avenues for sharing SNAP information and potentially create sign-up opportunities in and around campus
  • Create listening opportunities to understand the needs and barriers for students to apply for SNAP benefits
  • Communicate and create relationships with existing campus groups and organizations to listen to needs regarding food insecurity
  • Create report sharing your experiences with the Food Bank of Lincoln
  • Assist in creating marketing materials and social media posts for UNL's student population

Qualifications: The ideal student intern will not be afraid to ask questions, explore opportunities, and be creative in digging into SNAP barriers that exist on campus. Bilingual is a plus but not required. Nonprofit or volunteer experience will be helpful. Comfortable with listening and sharing personal experiences with university students, faculty, and staff. Comfortable with speaking and engaging with groups about sensitive topics. Transportation is key as students will travel to outreach locations with our SNAP staff to better understand the SNAP application process.

Social Media Intern

Description: Our goal is to improve our social media, we currently utilize Facebook & Instagram. Lighthouses Instagram, when started was primarily a way for staff to communicate to youth when we will be closed (events, field trips, breaks, snow days, etc.). We would like to maintain this option of communicating these closures but also add in additional content that would allow someone to view our Instagram & have a good idea of what Lighthouse is, what services we provide, and events/programs we have happening. Facebook is primarily for the community, parents & donors. We do post days that we are closed there but highlighting events, volunteers, etc. is something we'd like to do more of/have it be more consistent. We would love for both platforms to have engaging content.

Qualifications:

After-School Program Intern

Description: The goal of this internship is to build relationships with middle & high school aged youth, as well as hosting a program that you will plan, implement & then review with staff. Students will spend time with our youth playing games, engaging in meaningful conversation & assisting with programming such as art club, social-emotional learning & more.

Qualifications:

Description: The goal of this internship is to build relationships with middle & high school aged youth, as well as hosting a sports/recreation program that you will plan, implement & then review with staff. Arts Event and Admin Intern

Description: We are looking for an intern who has an interest in arts and culture! Areas of responsibility include:

  • Processing audience surveys from our original productions Foster and Not Too Far Distant. We receive hundreds of surveys from our performances across the state, and the results will be sent to the Department of Defense. This is an exciting opportunity to measure some of the impact of these experiences.
  • Assisting with event planning for First Friday events. Help our board members with fun, creative First Friday events for the community. This is a relatively new area for us, so there is lots of room for input and trying new things.
  • Assisting with nonprofit administration tasks, including preparing for board meetings and grant applications/reports. This is another area of need, as running a nonprofit comes with lots of admin tasks. This is a great opportunity to get a good insight into nonprofit management and grant writing.
  • Social media and videography work. We would love some help with our social media, which is currently run by our board members. We have a great social media history, so there is lots of opportunity for fun work, highlighting the many exciting projects BLIXT works on. We are also looking to capture some more work on video, especially our after-school club work.
  • Assist with our education program that offers creative after-school clubs. We have a group of interns who lead our after-school programs, so this is another great area to get experience in the management of such a program, and/or to participate as a club leader.

Project Coordinator – Nebraska Department of Transportation Buckle Up Phone Down Initiative

Description: NDOT needs you to help make a difference across the state! As the project coordinator for the Buckle Up Phone Down initiative, you will help promote NDOT's initiative to high schools and have them become Buckle Up Phone Down schools. Additionally, you will plan for the Buckle Up Phone Down to engage teenage drivers at the Nebraska High School Volleyball Championships.

  • Promote Buckle Up Phone Down initiative to high schools across the state via email and social media
  • Manage school outreach and communication with Buckle Up Phone Down schools
  • Create strategy and engagement plan with schools and individuals at state championships booth
  • Track school participation and booth analytics in excel

Construction and Event Intern

Description:

The overarching goal of our organization is to bring people together to build affordable housing for those in our communities. To help achieve that, this internship position will primarily consist of assisting in the construction department, all while learning the ways a nonprofit organization runs. The intern can expect to help estimate and purchase materials, write timelines for projects happening during that time, participate in events, and work with volunteers.

Assistant Facilitator

Description: An intern's main goal would be to supervise and support young people as they engage in Democratic Self Directed Learning. What this looks like depends on the day and the activity. Generally speaking, facilitators supervise kids playing and kids working on projects. This can be very passive, simply observing and providing help when asked, or it can be more active, as in participating in a game like chess or tag or actively working alongside a kid as they work on projects like painting a canvas or researching wolves.

Interns can also create lesson plans and teach them during a time of day we call Open Time. During Open Time, young people are free to choose how they spend their time. Anyone in the community, a child or an adult, can put on what we call 'seminars'. This is a lesson or pre planned activity. For instance, last year we had a young person teach a fantasy map drawing lesson. We've had kids conduct slime demonstrations, tarot reading, chemistry experiments and lead field trips into the community. If an intern is interested in teaching something they were passionate about, or they are wanting to gain experience with lesson planning and execution, this could be a wonderful opportunity for them.

Interns can also observe and start to help young people in our conflict resolutions practices. This looks like acting as a mediator when conflict arises and helping kids share their experiences, listen to one another, and work towards repair or collaborate on some kind of resolution.

Wild Learning is a dynamic learning space, there are many different kinds of learning opportunities for everyone. Interns can expect to have a lot of autonomy and shape this internship to fit their needs, goals and passions.

Qualifications: Our ideal candidate 

  • Is engaged in or curious about education, conflict resolution and community building. 
  • Loves working with kids and has a strong sense that children deserve respect and care.
  • Has some experience working with children. These experiences can range from babysitting, to working at summer camps, to volunteering at schools. But we would love to welcome someone who is looking to gain experience working with kids due to their interest in education.
  • Has strong communication skills. This looks like communicating in a respectful and timely manner and asking for help or clarification when needed. We also love feedback.
  • Provide extra help to the facilitators and add new perspectives and ideas to our community. College students are actively engaged in academic studies and therefore can share new research and provide generative insights and critiques.

Marketing and Events Intern

Description: Key Responsibilities:

  • Event Planning: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of events, including but not limited to fundraisers, community outreach events, and youth programs.
  • Marketing Campaigns: Support the development and implementation of marketing campaigns to promote Boys and Girls Club programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Content Creation: Work closely with the Director of Development & Marketing to create engaging content for social media channels, website, and other marketing materials.
  • Creative Skills: Assist with designs for flyers, posters, and digital assets for marketing purposes. Take photos of club programs to help accurately portray our organization in marketing materials.
  • Community Outreach: Collaborate with local businesses, schools, and community organizations to promote Boys and Girls Club activities and events.
  • Data Analysis: Assist in collecting and analyzing data to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts and track donor gifts.

Qualifications:

Volunteer Engagement and Marketing Intern

Description: As a Volunteer Engagement and Marketing Intern, you will collaborate with our marketing and event team primarily on three community fundraising events and one extended community volunteering opportunity: Celebrity Bartending Event (November), Small Business Saturday (November 25), #GivingTuesday (December 3), and Season of Service (November through December). While you do not need to be present at the events that fall outside your scheduled hours, your role will help assist with the marketing of these events, including the creation of the content calendar, brainstorming marketing strategies, content creation, as well as with coordinating volunteer opportunities and volunteers. Your insightful contribution will help to create successful experiences for volunteers, donors, and corporate partners while at the same time, improve lives and advance United Way's mission.

Lancaster Connected Collaborative Assistant

Description: Lancaster Connected is a Community Collaborative focused on safe children and strong families. The mission of the collaborative is to support families through a prevention network of connected community resources to ensure all families have the opportunities they need to raise healthy and thriving children. Utilizing a Collective Impact approach, our collaborative seeks to build public-private partnerships that can lead to transformational change in our community for children and families. Through Lancaster Connected, we are able to bring together diverse organizations and partners to address issues impacting children, youth and families in a way that is too complex for any one agency to solve on its own. We seek to build connections, improve communication and coordination and reduce duplication of efforts. United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County services as the backbone agency for the work of Lancaster Connected.

As an assistant you would be coordinating with members of the collaborative to set up and facilitate meetings, create documents, organize contact information, and prepare grant reports.

Youth Program Intern 

Description: The goals of the ACCC Youth Program are: 1) Give immigrant and refugee youth opportunities to build relationships with trusted adults; 2) Provide a safe space to express cultural values and traditions and reflect on what culture means; 3) Provide spaces for immigrant and refugee youth to build community with other immigrants from their culture.

Duties & Skills:

  • Participate in implementing after school and during school programs for middle school and high school immigrant youth.
  • Engage with youth in prosocial, culturally-sensitive activities and build positive mentor relationships.
  • Support Youth Coordinators by assisting with youth program curriculum development, activity planning, field trips, guest speakers and end-of-semester showcase events.
  • Attend and successfully complete all required training programs, staff meetings and complete all related assignments in a timely manner.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of hours, work performed, and outcomes in weekly check-ins and a written report to the supervisor at the completion of project or time served.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate 

  • Has experience working with youth and/or New Americans before
  • Has an interest in working with youth and/or New Americans
  • Is required to complete a background check as soon as possible, both for the Asian Center and for LPS to enter the schools. We will work with them to navigate the background check process.

Career Ladder Intern

Description: The goals of the Career Ladder Program are: To conduct policy research and provide programmatic support for CareerLadder, a newly launching nonprofit under the Asian Center that serves skilled immigrant professionals seeking to use their professional education and experience in their fields from abroad in Nebraska.

Duties & Skills:

  • Provide support in researching, summarizing, and analyzing policies related to skilled immigrant integration and licensure both locally and nationally; provide analysis and briefings for CareerLadder staff
  • Support policy outreach efforts and coordination as needed with external organizations
  • Provide research support for CareerLadder Resource Hub including finding resources, taking notes during interviews and focus groups, and collaborating in the design and planning process with other team members
  • Attend and successfully complete all required training programs, staff meetings, and complete all related assignments in a timely manner
  • Help take notes at meetings as needed (rarely)

Qualifications:

  • Some experience with research and professional writing
  • Have an interest in research and helping skilled immigrant professionals.
