The Holland Codes were developed to help individuals find a good “fit” between their personality, motivations, and their chosen work environment.
Each person’s particular combination of strengths in the categories of Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Conventional and Enterprising is an expression of their values and interests that can help inform their choice of majors or careers. Explore each category below to help identify career majors and career paths for your top categories.
- Artistic: I enjoy using my imagination and creativity for self-expression. I like storytelling and/or performing. I like to work in unstructured settings and have autonomy and agency in my work. I am a dreamer and an idealist.
- Conventional: I am good at planning, organizing and handling details. I am responsible and methodical. I like collecting and categorizing objects, numbers, or ideas. I follow rules and procedures. I like clear expectations, structure and routine.
- Enterprising: I am confident, energetic and adventurous. I like to persuade people and lead groups. I often blend work and play, and enjoy meeting new people and making connections. I like to negotiate deals and bring new ideas to life.
- Investigative: I am curious and logical, and love learning. I seek knowledge both in school and in my personal life, and like to solve problems and puzzles. I am independent and like to observe and analyze topics in-depth.
- Realistic: I am practical-minded and enjoy building, repairing, crafting, cooking or gardening. I enjoy working outdoors and/or working with my hands. I like active roles requiring physical coordination and skill. I am goal-oriented.
Social: I enjoy helping and uplifting people. I am empathetic, social and outgoing. I like to teach, encourage, or heal. I like being part of a team, and I solve problems by discussing them with people. I am a good communicator.
