Career Fair Tips

It’s not hard for the career fair experience to feel overwhelming. These tips will help you perform your best and get the most out of your recruiting experience.

  • Be engaging!

We know it can feel like a long day, especially when it is not your first career fair of the week. However, doing your best to bring energy the entire day can make a dramatic difference to the students you are interacting with. Standing in front of your table with positive body language is much more welcoming for prospective employees as they walk by. If you are excited about your organization, students can sense that.

  • Embrace the questions!

We encourage students of all grades to attend our career fair, so the questions you will receive will vary. Some students might have never heard of your organization but when they leave, make sure you’re one to remember so when it comes to graduation, your organization is the first on their list.

  • Be prepared!

You are going to meeting with a LOT of different students, so it’s good to think about what you want to get out of the experience. We suggest coming prepared with materials to help connect with students, a way to capture the information of who you talk to for follow-up, and an open-mind!

  • Try to bring your team!

It does not have to just be recruiting staff that attends the fair. With a max of three representatives, you can bring SMEs and people from the teams you are hiring for to also connect with students and share more about the specific work they do. This is also a great way to ensure you get a break throughout the day to eat lunch or get off your feet.
