My name is Spencer Edward Tessman and I’m originally from Hastings, Nebraska. I attended Hastings Senior High School and there I discovered my passion for language learning and instruction. I studied German, Spanish, and French while there and after graduating, I moved to Lincoln to attend UNL to pursue a degree in German and Spanish Secondary Education. In 2019, I traveled to Chile and backpacked around the country alone for three months. This reinforced my love for traveling and demonstrated to me that abroad is where I belong. In 2021, I traveled to Bielefeld, Germany where I studied during the Wintersemester and deepened my knowledge of the German language, culture, and history further. Now, I’m grateful to have been granted the Fulbright English Assistantship which will allow me to return to Germany once again. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to help instruct English there and to share Nebraska’s culture with my future students in Germany about 4,800 miles away.
