Academic/ProfessionalIdentityLeadership

The Afrikan People’s Union serves as the primary black student government organization the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. We will advocate for the best interests of the black student body, both on and off campus, and will provide opportunities for leadership and empowerment. The Afrikan People’s Union will strive to provide sustenance for the spiritual and intellectual needs of the black student on this predominately white institution. It will act as the curator for our Afrikan heritage, and foster solidarity among the joint communities of black people campus-wide, nationwide, and worldwide. The Afrikan People’s Union will attack, challenge and overcome the racism in the university and the society with passion and courage. It will fight of the dignity of all peoples, and encourage the harmonious coexistence of humanity. The culmination of the efforts of the Afrikan People’s Union will be the development and upliftment of the universal black consciousness through kuumba and ujima, and it will live the phase “Amandla ngawethy!” (Strength is ours!).
