YWCA Lincoln is currently looking to add volunteers to our community for the Take a Break program.
Take a Break is a program that offers a break every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month to any parent or guardian of children who identify on the autism spectrum or have other access and functional needs. The program runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and includes snacks, dinner, and time to play games and connect as a group. Volunteers would need to arrive at 5:30 to prepare and help parents check their children in, and be prepared to stay till 8:30 to clean.
The program serves children who are 1 year through 10 years of age. The program facilitates opportunities for caregivers to recharge while their children are cared for in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. Volunteers have the potential to move into a paid position after a certain period of time.
Responsibilities:
– Volunteers are responsible for supporting facilitation recreation and educational activities to ensure a safe and fun experience for assigned groups of children at the Take A Break Program.
– Ensure program environment and activities are satisfactorily completed
– Communicate positively with parents/guardians and with other staff and volunteers.
– Communicate with families about their children’s progress and strengths
– Assist in keeping environment in the rooms, tidy, clean, and equipped with supplies. Help with set up and clean up
– Ensure the safety of children by providing appropriate supervision
– Maintain professional attitude and loyalty at all times, maintaining highest standard of confidentiality
– Report any concerns or observations that may need to be reported
– Maintain and keep organized the equipment and supplies
– Attend trainings and participate in meetings
– Other duties as assigned
Hours: 6 per month
