GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a contract Fish Culture Specialist at the Clark Fork Fish Hatchery in Clark, WY. Under supervision, this position carries out a variety of tasks in the propagation and stocking of fish in streams and lakes and in the maintenance of equipment, buildings, and grounds. This position participates in the work rotation to monitor the fish culture facility seven days a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Under supervision, carries out a variety of tasks in the propagation and stocking of fish in streams and lakes, and in the maintenance of equipment, and buildings and grounds.
  • Thins, inventories, and feeds fish to produce optimum fish growth; cleans and
  • disinfects fish tanks and raceways; assists in stocking fish in lakes and
  • streams; maintains hatchery facilities, equipment, and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to those with any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or a closely related field.

**Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of fish propagation and management.
  • Knowledge of animal biological processes and behaviors.
  • Skills in oral and written communications, computers, and computer software.
  • Skills in light maintenance of small engines and lawn equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to operate various equipment and vehicles (standard transmissions), lift heavy loads exceeding 50 pounds, and work in adverse weather conditions under prolonged outdoor activities.
  • Ability to respond to facility requirements at any time, day or night.
  • On-site housing is provided as a condition of work.
  • Ability to respond to facility requirements at any time, day or night.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check prior to appointment.
  • Position is contract (At-Will Employee Contract) at the Clark Fork Fish Hatchery until June 30, 2021. Contract may be renewed July 1, 2021.
