AmeriFlux Network Project

Position duties. . .

Responsibilities include field plot layout and maintenance, data collection on plant development, crop growth and processing of samples – plant fresh and dry weights, leaf area, and sample milling. Additional duties could include measurement of soil CO2 flux or soil trace gases with a LI-COR 8100 as well as possibly isolating and measuring plant pigments. Other tasks in support of the project may be assigned as needs arise.

Position details. . .

Hours may be variable and flexible, but generally 8:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday (no weekends). Time off and vacations can usually be accommodated. Start date around May 10th or 17th (flexible). Minimum pay $10.00 per hour, additional for relevant education, experience or added responsibilities. We will strive to give a minimum of 25 hours per week but never more than 40 hours – this will vary depending on the research workload but cannot be guaranteed. Candidates are expected to undergo safety training and follow established protocols and COVID restrictions to ensure a safe work environment.

Work conditions. . .

A large portion of the work will be outdoors at the Eastern Nebraska Research and Extension Center (ENREC) at Ithaca, Nebraska as well as indoor work on UNL’s East Campus. Work is typically 50/50 field and lab. Travel to ENREC is by University vehicle and you are compensated for travel time. Work conditions can be challenging including mud, rain, heat and wind – the applicant must be willing to work in any weather conditions provided safety is not an issue.

Those interested must. . .

•be at least a college freshman or 18 years of age

•enjoy working outdoors

•show meticulous attention to detail

•be reliable

•be able to work semi-independently following prescribed protocols

•be capable of carrying 30 pounds of equipment under field conditions as well as manually taking soil samples with a hand probe

•have a valid driver’s license and undergo a driving background check

•Previous experience with LI-COR equipment is a plus, but we will train if needed.
