Position Responsibilities: To intern with harvesting small grains (winter wheat, barley, and triticale) research greenhouses; take field notes and measurements on plant growth and development, disease and insect ratings; harvest field research trials; and clean and package seed for planting. Field research trials are grown throughout Nebraska. Project will provide transportation to all research locations and will reimburse expenses for overnight travel.
Work Conditions: Work will be in greenhouses, outdoors at research sites, and in a seed cleaning facility. Work at times can be hot and dusty.
Needed Qualifications: Successful candidates must like working outdoors, pay attention to detail, be reliable, and able to work semi-independently. An interest in agriculture or biology is preferred, but not required. Previous experience with computers and machinery is also preferred but not required. All aspects of the position will be explained to the successful candidates as part of a successful internship to understand applied genetics and crop improvement. Due to covid-19 protocols with limited passengers per vehicle, those with a valid driver’s license are preferred.
Hourly wage is based upon education and previous experience.
