The Transfer Peer Mentoring Program is designed to assist new transfer students in making a successful transition to the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Transfer students are paired with a mentor (an upper class student who previously transferred successfully) who can answer questions and refer students to the resources they need to be successful. Mentors also organize numerous group activities designed to help new students get connected, make friends, and learn the ins and outs of being a Husker.Transfer Peer Mentors need to commit around 5 hours a week to their mentoring position, so we do not recommend having another job that requires more than 15 hours a week. Specific responsibilities include: Regularly communicate with 20-30 transfer students; lead small group activities and discussions. Facilitate weekly drop-by “office hours” during the semester for transfer students; schedule one-on-one meetings with students as needed.Attend Transfer Peer Mentor training: (1) day (virtual) during summer 2021, (1) day in August 2021, monthly group/1-on-1 training throughout the Fall/Spring semesters (dates/times TBD).Attend professional development training sessions (date/times TBD).Communicate weekly with CAST staff via email (regarding updates, concerns, meetings, etc.).Brainstorm, plan, and attend transfer student social events (date/times TBD).Be willing to share your experiences as a transfer student in a variety of forums and represent the CAST office at events across campus.Abide by University of Nebraska – Lincoln policies and procedures. What’s in it for me?Demonstrate peer communication and leadership skills through one-on-one and small group conversations with students.Meet new people and connect to other UNL students, staff, and faculty who share your interests.Get connected to campus activities, clubs, and organizations.Mentors will develop skills to assist transfer students in growing their own leadership at UNL.Compensation: $10.00 per hourWho is eligible to participate?
