Associate Director of Development, New York and Caribbean

The Nature Conservancy is looking for an individual with fundraising or business development experience who wants to make a difference for nature and people. The Conservancy is a global conservation leader and one of the top fundraising charities in the United States. This position will focus primarily on fundraising for New York’s Caribbean Development Squad, which seeks to reach ambitious, multi-million-dollar goals for the Caribbean Division. The position will also focus on fundraising for the Conservancy’s mission to conserve the lands and waters upon which all life depends in New York and globally. Our team is strategic and ambitious, and we have fun as we build strong, impactful relationships between the Conservancy and the leading individual donors, foundations and corporations. We are looking for smart, entrepreneurial, and emotionally-intelligent go-getters who can manage and foster solid relationships externally and internally for lasting success.

Working with a dynamic and ambitious development team in New York and conservation team in the Caribbean, the Associate Director of Development, New York and Caribbean(ADoD) is responsible for the identification and qualification of major gift prospects, cultivating and soliciting donors through direct contact.. They will be responsible for building a portfolio of qualified donors and developing relationships. They understand and apply the principles of developing donor strategies. They will be responsible for direct asks to support funding needs of the Conservancy’s local, regional and global priorities. They involve appropriate partners in the field and staff at the Worldwide Office. They are capable of describing the programs of the Conservancy in broad terms. The ADoD will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database and develop funding proposals. They will also develop and implement an internal strategic communications strategy to help other fundraisers throughout the Conservancy’s global development team raise funding for the Caribbean. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, influential, and diplomatic when navigating across geographies, departments, and organizational levels.

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.
  • Multi-lingual skills (Spanish or French preferred) and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Familiarity with the Caribbean region
