Sarah’s… an Oasis for Women
is a home dedicated to safety and dignity for a diverse community of women where they can begin new and productive lives.
Role Description: This position includes collaboration on work toward Sarah’s mission dedicated to safety and dignity for a diverse community of women where they can begin new and productive lives. Women healing from trauma continue vibrant, meaningful lives and contribute to the common good. The efforts of the St. Joseph Worker (SJW) will include a balance of systemic, direct service, and organizational work. The list of responsibilities includes areas the SJW may be asked to participate in but is not necessarily exhaustive. The Director is committed to ensuring that the SJW reaches her program, personal and professional goals.
Schedule: This position works 36 hours per week. Hours are flexible, Monday – Friday daytime and at least some of these remote but we ask that for the residents the schedule be consistent week to week approved ahead of time by your supervisor. Please calendar SJW program days as soon as you know them on the Sarah’s Master Calendar in Google.
- Weekly staff meetings at noon on Wednesdays (in person or via Zoom)
- Weekly resident drop-in at 1 P.M. on Thursdays (in person or via Zoom)*
- Weekly yoga at 6 pm on Thursdays (on Zoom – may change or add a day in person in 2021-22)*
- Monthly Sarah’s House Meeting the first Wednesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 P.M. (in person or via Zoom)
- Quarterly “Day in the Life of an Asylee” workshop (as part of the hosting team; via Zoom or in-person)
- Annual Networking Event in January (In person or via Zoom, multi-day event).*
- Health Coordination Team planning monthly activities / health programs with the St Kate’s Health Coordination Intern and doing all on-site coordination if St Kate’s intern stays as 100% virtual*
- Podcasts with OD Action / resident and former resident panel discussions*
- Annual Thanksgiving or food delivery for residents (Thursday the week before Thanksgiving or the Wednesday “Eve” of Thanksgiving)*
- Monthly birthday treats / summer bonfires every other month coordinating these with the Household Coordinator*
- Annual Winter Holiday Celebration / Sponsor-a-Family or other gift planning (2021 December date TBD)*
- Monthly ministry conversation third Wednesdays at 10 A.M. –(on Zoom or in person) required once; then optional to participate on the hosting team
- Bi-monthly Asylum Network meetings (on Zoom or in person) –optional
- CSJ Justice Commission Immigration Working Group monthly meetings (on Zoom or in person) — optional
Accountability: The SJW is accountable to the Director of Sarah’s, meeting regularly, receiving support, guidance and direction from her. She works collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, and residents.
1. Ability to work with, communicate and relate to women of diverse backgrounds, language skills, and life experiences including sensitivity to the needs of women who have experienced significant trauma, assuring the women’s dignity and safety
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality as well as develop and maintain positive relationships and communication with various constituents (volunteers, other staff, service organizations, etc.)
3. Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Office, Google Suite (Gmail, Meet, Docs, Drive, Survey, Calendar, Photo, Search), Canva for flyers and presentations, Shutterfly, Social Media, Zoom, OneCallNow and WhatsAp! Communications with current and former resident groups, AirTable app, and Sarah’s “Apricot CTK” and eTapestry database to conduct research, gather information, and record work effectively
4. Demonstrate organization and time management skills and ability to prioritize a wide range of duties
5. Ability to mentor residents with diverse backgrounds and language skills to utilize texting, email, and Zoom and communicate with and retain schedule and professionalism boundaries being available appropriately via your own mobile devices and email.
6. Ability to work as a team member as well as independently, be adaptable and flexible, and show self-motivation, creativity and leadership* for projects
7. Preferably holds valid driver’s license to be able to drive Sarah’s van to bring residents to appointments and drive to run errands for Sarah’s
8. Ability to maintain calm in critical situations; familiarity with facilitating or practicing conflict resolution.
*Events which the SJW Case Worker holds the lead role in planning / facilitating.
