Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is looking to hire a part-time bilingual Clinical Research Outreach and Education Coordinator to work in the community outreach and coordination of clinical studies on dementia and aging patients from diverse backgrounds in the Palo Alto VA Health Care System and the greater Bay Area.

ABOUT PALO ALTO VETERANS INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH (PAVIR)

PAVIR facilitates research and education activities conducted at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. At PAVIR we work with more than 160 uniquely talented medical scientists. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BILINGUAL OUTREACH AND EDUCATION COORDINATOR

As a bilingual Clinical Research Outreach and Education Coordinator, you perform community outreach and help educate Veterans, health professionals, patients, and their families about dementia with a special focus on Veterans and VA employees. In both English and Spanish, you coordinate community educational outreach events about dementia. You serve as primary contact with research participants, sponsors, and regulatory agencies. With careful attention to detail, you collect and manage participant and patient data for clinical research projects. You foster community relationships and assist in creating outreach materials.

Your job is highly interactive as you work closely with the Community Outreach team in addition to having daily contact with a large number of patients and families in the community. You interview community participants to identify their educational needs. You monitor the recruitment of study subjects, data completion, and protocol deviations. You also assist in developing recruitment strategies. With input from the principal investigator as needed, you prepare regular progress reports on these matters as well as propose and implement strategies to keep the team on target.

You keep the documentation of patient and research data up to date and properly organized. With attention to detail, you manage research project databases, develop flow sheets, complete study documents, and fill out case report forms. You participate in site monitoring visits and regulatory audits. You also prepare regulatory submissions and ensure that institutional review board (IRB) renewals are completed. You get great satisfaction out of increasing dementia awareness in the community while contributing to innovative research to improve Veteran and public health!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A BILINGUAL OUTREACH AND EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Two-year college degree in health care, social work, education, communication, or a related field

Experience in human subject research, including experience recruiting subjects for clinical studies

Practical knowledge of institutional review boards (IRB) and regulatory requirements

Bilingual (ability to read, write, and speak Spanish proficiently)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

Ability to use and apply analytical and mathematical skills effectively

Valid driver’s license

Ability to pass a background check

Strong interest in dementia and clinical research

Deep understanding of the culture of veterans from various eras and cultures

Society of Clinical Research Associates or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) certification and familiarity with REDCAP databases would be preferred.

Knowledge of the VA and its health care system related to clinical research studies would be a plus!

Physical Demands: Lifting and pulling objects up to 40 lbs occasionally; light/fine grasping, etc. Must be able to sit, bend, stand for long periods of time.

Environmental Conditions: Office, hospital/clinical, and community settings. Occasional travel will be required for outreach events.
