Merchants Bonding Company is seeking candidates for Surety Underwriting Intern for the summer of 2021. Surety is a boutique line of insurance, and our underwriters possess a unique mix of relationship management with brokers and contractors, as well as strong financial/risk analysis and problem-solving. This internship will provide insight to the industry and what it takes to make a career as an Underwriter.
Merchants Bonding Company Summer 2021 internships will include opportunities for community service projects, cross-departmental learning, intern networking, and both social and educational events. The group will work closely together on business-impacting projects and gain real-world experiences.
Eligible candidates meet the following criteria:
- Currently a junior or senior-level student working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Economics
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Finance or Accounting skills with the ability to learn basic analysis of financial statements
- Outgoing and friendly personality with the ability to engage people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Motivated, confident, self-starter with high capacity to learn
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and discretion
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Proven organizational skills and ability to handle multiple duties
This internship will focus on the following key responsibilities:
- Sharpen relationship building skills and techniques
- Basic understanding of the surety bond industry
- Participation in training and employee engagement activities
- Recommendations on bond submissions worth thousands up to millions of dollars
