Internship Expires February 19, 2021

Are you looking for a summer research internship studying ocean, coastal or environmental science? We invite you to check out the Maryland Sea Grant Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. We bring upper-level undergraduate students to the Chesapeake Bay to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. We select undergrads in many disciplines, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology and marine and environmental science.

Each REU fellow will receive:

  • $7,200 stipend
  • Free housing at your research lab
  • Round-trip travel expenses
  • Individual project with science mentor

In particular, we encourage students from colleges and universities where access to marine science and to research opportunities is limited and who are from groups underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math. We believe bringing together students from many disciplines, backgrounds and parts of the country makes for a more interesting and educational summer experience.

Join us for our 12-week program from May 23 to August 14, 2021. We are accepting applications through February 19. Please visit our website to find out more (through the external application link on Handshake) or drop us a note at reu@mdsg.umd.edu.

About Maryland Sea Grant

Maryland Sea Grant, part of the University System of Maryland, plays an important role in the network of organizations working to preserve and restore the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland’s coastal waters. Our mission combines scientific research, education, and public outreach. We work to develop sound ideas and practices that can enhance the Bay’s ecology as well as the businesses and jobs that depend on it. As part of this mission, we support an undergraduate Research Experiences for Undergraduates program with our partners at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.
