Madison Country Day School, a Pre-K through grade 12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, seeks a dynamic, lower school homeroom teacher for the 2020-21 school year.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who inspires others through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. This candidate will enjoy collaborating with dedicated educators instructing Pre-K through fourth grade students through an intellectually stimulating, personally enriching, and academically challenging reading, writing, mathematics, and history/geography program. Experience with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and Singapore math is prefered, but not required.

Applicants will be excited to be an active member of the MCDS Lower School Team, as we are a close-knit, active, and small community. Applicants must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities. Additionally, applicants must be innovative, creative, collaborative, hold a growth mindset, and be passionate about working with children.

The successful candidate:

Will contribute to our mission through the following activities and responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with family members, specialist teachers, and other staff to achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities.
  • Ensure classroom arrangement, materials, and displays are organized and conducive to children’s learning.
  • Provide in-person and/or virtual classroom experiences that are developmentally, linguistically, and culturally age-appropriate for the children served.
  • Designing and facilitating rigorous, empowering lesson plans that are student-centered and thought-provoking
  • Being intellectually curious and a have the desire to spark a love of learning in students
  • Have a genuine appreciation of elementary-aged students, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment
  • Document student’s progress through ongoing observation and direct assessment activities, using data to plan and individualize curriculum.
  • Present engaging assemblies to an audience of Pre-K through grade 4 students on IB Learner Profile traits.

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Qualifications:

2 to 3 years of teaching experience preferably in a team-teaching setting;

Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Excellent listening skills;

Comfortable differentiating instruction;

Classroom management skills;

Dedication to meeting the needs of diverse student learners.
