Our Tenant Assistance Project (TAP) is a collaborative effort with Legal Aid of Nebraska, the UNL Civil Law Clinic, and the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project. Together, we help people in the Lincoln community that are facing eviction through free limited scope representation at their eviction hearings.
But while the volunteer lawyers and law students at the courthouse do great work, our outreach volunteers are the lifeblood of the program. They are the ones that go out into the community to connect with tenants facing eviction and let them know what TAP can do for them. Most outreach volunteers go door-to-door and talk to tenants in person, but there are also opportunities for volunteers to make phone calls to tenants.
Outreach volunteers primarily work between Thursday and Sunday of a given week. Volunteers sign up for the outreach lists they want to take, so the workload is completely up to the individual.
The position is unpaid but those volunteers who drive to complete their lists can have their mileage reimbursed.
