Position Summary: This position is located at the Kansas Correctional Industries (KCI) on the grounds of the Lansing Correctional Facility it is responsible for the production of aluminum and printed overlay signage/decals used on highways, roads, state parks and any other entity falling under KCI’s allowable customer base. This position is responsible for the production of acrylic awards, plaques, plastic name plates and plastic interior signage, as well as engraving. Duties include preparing production schedules from customer orders and ensuring that products meet specifications, which comply with customer requests, ship dates, Traffic Control Device Manual or other regulatory guidelines.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise subordinate Correctional Industries Managers. Train and assigns duties to staff and inmate workers in production and maintenance. Responsible for ensuring that safe work practices are followed and proper personal protection equipment is used by staff and inmates.
- Responsible for determining raw material requirements for anticipated production schedules and preparing specifications which are adequate to obtain acceptable material. Maintain raw material inventory levels that are adequate for continued production, but do not exceed determined maximum levels, which are established by the Manufacturing Manager with input from division.
- Responsible for building and machinery maintenance and upkeep through established preventative maintenance cycles. Specific tasks may be delegated to subordinate staff and inmate workers. Responsible for the security and safety of inmates supervised. Assists with head counts, responsible for enforcing KDOC, KCI and facility security, safety and operational policies and regulations governing inmate behavior.
- Responsible for all necessary administrative reports which may be required from the division to include: payroll, tool control, job pricing, etc. Must coordinate inmate employment and security with institution personnel.
