IKUS Life Enrichment Services and Indian Trails Camp are looking for Health Officers for our spring Respite season and our Summer Camp Season. This is a great opportunity for people who are going into the medical field, especially nurses and doctors/PA. Indian Trails Camp is an inclusive camp for individuals with disabilities. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training and or experience in the nursing or medical field
- Understanding and staying true to the mission and values of Indian Trails Camp
- Desire to work with individuals both youth and adults with physical disabilities and mild mental impairments
- Ability to relate to ones peer group
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good character, integrity and ability to adapt to camp settings
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control, and team player
- College student in related field (nursing or medical student)
- High School graduate or equivalent, or at least 18 years of age
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred
RESPONSIBLE TO:
- Camp Director with regards to policies, procedures and job performance.
- Camp Nurse/RN with regards to daily needs and support
EXPECTATION:
- Function as a cooperative member of the ITC staff
- Supervision of campers health
- Have a willingness to help out whenever and wherever needed
- Assist in camp check in and check out of campers and camper medications
- Attendance during all medication times
- Help ensure camper safety all summer long
- Commit to working the entire camp season
- Be on time
- Attend all necessary meetings and training
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:
- Set up and dispense all medications
- Daily treatments; i.e. bowel and bladder care
- Special treatments; clap therapy, etc.
- Emergency car; cuts, scrapes, falls etc.
- Night checks as campers settle down for bed
- Monitoring of health charts
- Assist staff in cabins or during activities when not needed in the health center
- Responsible for any other duties as assigned
REGISTRATION DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as an integral part of the process of performing the health component of registration
- Screening; throat check, temperature, etc.
- Intake of information; see specific sheets. Complete intake form accurately and fully
- Interview with parent; additional or new information requested
- Intake of medications/verification of dosages
- Prepare medications for the incoming day, dinner medications and bedtime medications
- Medications are taken in during registration between 3:00pm and 5:00pm; dinner is at 5:30pm
ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish a schedule for campers care with counseling staff
- Monitor all catheterizing by health staff members
- Communicate with parents regarding camper’s care and any illness that arise
- Communicate with Camp Director regarding problems, concerns, or phone calls to parent/guardian
- Work with the Camp Nurse and Camp Director in decision making about campers care or staff care (i.e. hospitalization, call of 911 or camper or staff needing to be sent home)
- Work with food service for any special dietary needs
RESPONSIBILITIES PRIOR TO EACH SESSION:
- Review of camper records
- Meet with cabin staff, briefing on camper needs
- Develop preliminary care schedules
RESPONSIBILITIES AT CLOSE OF EACH SESSION:
- Pack camper medications and see that they are sent home with parent/guardian upon check out
- Responsible to call parent or guardian if they forget and wait for them to come back to pick it up prior to leaving camp
- Notation made for conferences to be held with any specific parent (i.e camper illness, behavior, depts. due etc.)
- Clean health center, take out trash and dirty linens
- Health center preparation for next incoming day
