Reports to: Manager of School Programs; Manager of Teen Programs; Manager of Off-Site School Programs

Department: Education

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Term: August 30, 2021–May 20, 2022

Compensation: $13.50/hour (approximately $18,000)

Benefits: Full benefits including medical and dental insurance and paid personal, holiday, and sick time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with regular Thursday evenings and occasional weekends required, 35 hours per week

Format: In-person and/or hybrid, depending upon the status of the pandemic

Scope of Position

The intern will assist with the planning and implementation of both in-person and virtual docent and volunteer training, student tours, school outreach, and evening programs for teens. As part of the Go van Gogh® school outreach program, the intern will lead classroom experiences for PreK-6th grade virtually or in-person, which may involve driving the Museum minivan to school sites throughout Dallas. The intern will lead K-12 student tours, serve as a mentor in teen leadership programs, and develop teaching materials for tours and Go van Gogh®.

Internship Goals

  • Collaboratively build and learn strategies for working with K12 audiences, teens, and teachers through a reflective, anti-racist teaching practice
  • Gain experience with writing in a museum context, including lesson plans, docent guides, and other interpretive resources
  • Gain experience with program development, including planning, budgeting, and evaluation
  • Grow skills in mentorship working with teens
  • Develop professional communication and interpersonal skills through collaboration with museum colleagues
  • Understand the relationship between all the departments within the Dallas Museum of Art and how they function together to comprise the organization

Requirements

  • Completion of at least an undergraduate degree in art history, art education, studio art, or the humanities prior to the start of the internship in August 2021
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak throughout the duration of a program without accommodation
  • Proficiency in Spanish encouraged
