Reports to: Manager of Adult Programs; Manager of Arts & Letters Live

Department: Education

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Term: August 30, 2021–June 10, 2022

Compensation: $13.50/hour (approximately $19,000)

Benefits: Full benefits including medical and dental insurance and paid personal, holiday, and sick time

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with regular evening and weekend programs required, 35 hours per week

Format: In-person and/or hybrid, depending upon the status of the pandemic

Scope of Position

The intern will assist with the development, implementation, and promotion of numerous onsite, offsite, and virtual lectures, performances, workshops, and special events for adults throughout the year, including Arts & Letters Live, the DMA’s literary and performing arts series. The intern will assist in program management and will work closely with guest speakers, performers, volunteers, artists and the public. The intern will develop and lead programs such as Make &Take, and head content creation for the Museum Murder Mystery event.

Internship Goals

  • Gain experience with program development, including planning, budgeting, logistics, execution, and evaluation
  • Grow skills in customer service and public speaking
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop program ideas connected to the permanent collection and upcoming exhibitions
  • Create educational content for adult audiences inspired by the Museum’s diverse collection areas and exhibitions
  • Develop professional communication and interpersonal skills through collaboration with museum colleagues
  • Understand the relationship between all the departments within the Dallas Museum of Art and how they function together to comprise the organization

Requirements

  • Completion of at least an undergraduate degree in art history, art education, or the humanities prior to the start of the internship in August 2021
  • Strong time management skills to successfully balance programming and office duties
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
