VOLUNTEER

WITH CRISIS TEXT LINE

Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support for people in crisis, all via text message. Become a volunteer Crisis Counselor and start supporting people across the country.

65 million Americans suffer from mental illness each year. They quietly struggle with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, suicidal thoughts, and more. The need is huge…so is your potential for impact.

How do you become a

Crisis Counselor?

Step 1: Fill out the 30-minute application

Step 2: Consent to a background check

Step 3: Complete the 30-hour web-based training

Step 4: Take your first shift and start supporting people in crisis!

Requirements:

Commit to volunteering 4 hours per week until you reach 200 hours (ideally this is within a year)

Access to a private computer and a stable internet connection

What are the perks?

Learn and improve skills. In 30 hours, you’ll have active listening, collaborative problem solving, and crisis management skills.

Set your own schedule. Since everything is 100% online, you take volunteer shifts from the comfort of your own home at the time of day that works for you.

Build your resume. Crisis Counselors highlight their volunteer work on their resumes when interviewing for jobs and applying to grad school, and use their hours toward community service requirements.

Feel supported. Join our thriving virtual community and connect with others anytime.

What are others saying?
