Become an AmeriCorps member and make a difference in your community! Mentor and tutor at-risk elementary and middle school students in Central Texas schools. The Communities In Schools of Central Texas AmeriCorps program continues to recruit three-quarter time members to serve during the current program year.
Communities In Schools is a non-profit social work agency that works in Central Texas area public schools. CIS of CT AmeriCorps places members on elementary and middle school campuses in Travis County (Austin, Del Valle, and Manor), Hays County (including Buda, Kyle and Niederwald), and Caldwell County (Lockhart) where they serve as supportive mentors and tutors to at-risk students.
We are seeking dedicated, responsible applicants with a genuine passion for working with at-risk youth. Experience with children grades 3-8 preferable but not required. Bilingual applicants, military veterans, and individuals with disabilities are welcomed and encouraged to apply. We provide comprehensive training and support to members year-round.
Program Dates: September 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021. You must serve for the entire program length.
Living Allowance and Other Benefits: Full-time members receive a $1,428.00 per month living allowance that is directed deposited into your bank account. Upon successful completion of service, members will also receive a $6,195.00 education award that can be used for qualified student loans and educational expenses for up to 7 years
Hours: Full-time members serve an average of 45 hours per week. Hours are generally Monday through Friday between the traditional school day hours of 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. Some weekend service day participation is required (about 3 times a year, usually 4 hours long).
