The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a highly respected national policy institute, is seeking to hire a Research Assistant/Associate to work with a team of highly skilled analysts on health policy issues. The Center’s health policy division undertakes extensive work at both the state and federal levels to strengthen health coverage for low- and moderate-income people. Our work includes analyzing proposed changes in government policies, promoting effective approaches to covering low- and moderate-income families and individuals, providing technical assistance to federal and state policymakers, conducting research on the implications of health policy choices, and working with other federal and state nonprofits on these issues.  The Research Assistant/Associate will support the team’s work, especially its quantitative work. They will report to the Director of Research and Data Analysis but will work closely with other health team experts as well.  Responsibilities  Analyze data in Excel and Stata, for example to evaluate the effects of enacted and proposed health policies. Assist in monitoring trends and changes in health insurance coverage, program enrollment, program costs, and other outcomes. Produce graphics for Center papers, blogs, and presentations.  Contribute to (and may author or co-author) analytic papers, policy briefs, blogs, and memos.  Assist with data requests from other national and state-level organizations.   Qualifications   Research Assistant: Bachelor’s degree with coursework demonstrating strong quantitative skills. Research Associate: Advanced degree in economics, public policy, statistics, or any field that requires strong quantitative skills, or a bachelor’s degree plus two years’ relevant experience.  Strong quantitative skills. Strong writing skills are a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with one or more software packages or programming languages used for data analysis (such as Stata, R, Python) is highly preferred. Proficiency with graphics applications such as Illustrator is a plus.  Demonstrated commitment to accuracy. Ability to work well independently and as part of a highly collaborative team, often on a time-sensitive basis.  Interest in health policy. Experience with or coursework related to health or low-income issues is a plus, but not required.  Commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people. Commitment to advancing multiple dimensions of equity and inclusion, including racial and gender equity, in policy analysis and advocacy as well as in the Center’s internal and external relationships.  This position reports to the Director of Research and Data Analysis. Terms of Employment: Full-time; exempt.
