Breakthrough Central Texas seeks enthusiastic, creative, and successful college students to teach
and mentor during our 6-week academic summer program. Under the guidance of seasoned
teaching professionals, Teaching Fellows will provide instruction to small classes of middle
schoolers. They will also serve on committees, lead study skills lessons, and design Explorations
(electives) classes for their students. Breakthrough Central Texas is an AmeriCorps program and
provides financial benefits in addition to quality professional development. Although this summer’s
programming style is still TBD, there is a possibility for virtual, in-person, or a hybrid of both.
As quarter-time AmeriCorps members, Teaching Fellows are required to accumulate 450 hours within the
service period of June 7-August 6, 2021 in order to receive the following:
● Living Stipend ($2,300) + $200 1 st time returner, + $400 2 nd time returner
● CNCS Education Award ($1,638) – upon completion of required service hours
● Local Housing support provided
● Non-monetary benefits (on-going support, professional development)
● Additional stipends to Pell-eligible/FRL students available
● Travel stipends available for out-of-state Pell-eligible students
