Bioinformatics is a cutting-edge research area intersecting computer science, statistics, and biology.
In the Integrated Digital Comics Lab (IDOL), we design scalable bioinformatics algorithms, models, and databases to analyze and integrate omics data to drive data-centric discovery and engineering for improving our environment and human health as a safe, secure, and precise technology. The area of bioinformatics, web services, and online databases play an important role for scientists to store and query biological data in an efficient and user-friendly manner. Bioinformatic websites are great platforms of open-science and reproducible research. In IDOL, we are lucky to develop and maintain couple of good products that have been recognized by world-wide plant and biomedical scientists.
In IDOL, students will get good experience in programming with python, mySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP etc. They will also get advanced experience in AngularJS, nodeJS, MongoDB, React, and/or graphic database and visualizations etc. Students will have a chance work with top biology labs, industry companies through some of the projects. It will be helpful no matter if their goal is to go to graduate school, or find a research scientist or software engineer position in various types of IT or biotech companies.
IDOL welcomes anybody with any type of computation passion. Participation is available through UCARE cycles, other fellowship program cycles, or we can also start research flexibly through a different mechanism. Please see below for more information, as well as how to get in touch with the lab.
