Chance is still in the process of figuring out what she wants to be when she grows up. She plays violin, piano and has performed with a few bands as a lead singer, so a music teacher always peaked her interest. She couldn’t live without headphones because she has to listen to music throughout the day, and loves spending time playing piano and singing with her son. As our Employer Relations Assistant, Chance loves how personable people are at Career Services and appreciates working in an office full of different personalities who share a common goal.

Amber joined the Career Services team in 2016 and loves working with logistics and details to help teams succeed. She currently coordinates many of the Career Services programing efforts, including career fairs and career prep events. Outside of the usual office day, she enjoys being outdoors and connecting with family and friends. You might see her zipping around downtown on her kick scooter, biking to a local lake with her kayak in tow, or sitting at a local coffee shop patio planning out her next trip to the mountains. .
In his spare time, Alex prefers to be as active as possible. He has been flying small aircrafts as a hobby for a few years now, and some day hopes to be a jet pilot with the US Air Force. In years past, he has narrated multiple television programs for PBS. On the top of his bucket list is to make it to the base camp of Mount Everest. His second bucket list item is to surf the Iceland Black Sand Beach.

- MA in Educational Administration - University of Nebraska-Lincoln
- PhD in Educational Administration - University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Chris serves as the Associate Director of Employer Experience and Outreach with Career Services at CBA. She’s a hard worker, and if you don’t believe us, she got her Ph.D. while working full-time and raising a family, all while continuing her involvement in the community (wow!).
Chris’s favorite thing to do in her free time is read. Her favorite subject in school was English, or just any literature type class. As a child, she wanted to be a librarian for a while because of her love for books. Although it’s hard for Chris to pick a favorite because she reads at least two new books per month, one of her top picks is The Circle by Dave Eggers. She notes that it’s an interesting book that makes people think, but is also really fun to read.
Chris’ favorite quote comes from another great book, Horton and the Egg by Dr. Seuss. “I meant what I said, I said what I meant, an elephant’s faithful 100%.” If Chris says she’s going to do something, she does it.

As a child, Celeste either wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy’s cheerleader or the President of the United States. Although those careers didn’t work out, she absolutely loves what she does in Career Services and would consider herself a ‘career nerd.’
In addition to her job, Celeste also enjoys shopping, home improvement, painting, organization, and chocolate. She also loves showing off her curly locks, and dreams about the day that big hair comes back into style.
Celeste’s favorite memory from college was meeting her husband in UNL’s very own Selleck dining hall. Although that was an exciting time in her life, if she could go back in time she’d love to go back to the American settling era to find undisturbed wilderness and live in it. With 15 minutes of fame, Celeste would rock the house with her singing skills and have a concert for the masses!
Assistant Director Education Background

- MA in Medieval Studies - Western Michigan University
Katie Sewell graduated with a bachelor's degree in History from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and a Master's degree in Medieval Studies from Western Michigan University. Immediately following graduate school she worked at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN as an Internship Coordinator, Career Advisor, and adjunct instructor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She recently joined the CBA Career Services team as a Career Coach and will be focusing on advising, teaching PrEP courses, and working with employers. Students can meet with Katie regarding internship/job search strategy, networking, LinkedIn (specialization), resumes, cover letters, interviews, salary negotiations, etc.
Assistant Director Education Background
- Bachelor's in Psychology - Minnesota State University Moorhead
- MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling/Career Counseling and Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions - University of Wisconsin-Stout
As Assistant Director for Career Services at CBA, Katie loves all of the different hats she wears at her job. She gets to try new things every day, and loves working with not only students and staff, but also employers.
In addition to being a rock star Assistant Director, Katie is also an incredible softball player. If she could go back in time, she would go back to her senior year of high school to relive her undefeated softball season. Her dream is to someday go to the women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Her other (unrelated) dream is to be a hippo because they get to hangout all day and soak up the sun, but can also be aggressive when necessary.
As a child, Janessa dreamed of being a teacher. She considers her current position very similar to a teaching career because she has the opportunity to impact students every day and help them reach their full potential. Along with the reward that comes from helping students, Janessa’s proudest accomplishment was when she received the Rising Star Consulting Award at her first job post-graduation. Her first job challenged her in so many ways, and she was able to overcome things to grow personally and professionally.
Janessa’s favorite thing to do in her free time is golf. She also collects coasters and has put a handful of them in a frame to show the places she has lived and traveled to. Her favorite family recipe would be a Norwegian Puff (yum!).
Micah graduated in May 2015 with a degree in marketing. Before graduating, he knew he wanted to work in higher education – specifically as a career coach, combining extracurricular activities and education to help students create a personal brand. Micah’s favorite part about his job is the relationship he builds with the students. Instead of just saying, “these are the exact bullet points,” he enjoys teaching students how to form the bullet points for an interview in order for them to sell themselves to an employer. Nothing is more fulfilling to Micah than to see students he’s worked with land a job.
At the top of Micah’s bucket list is to visit his mom’s side of the family in South Korea and Hawaii to learn more about his heritage. He would also love to go to Alaska and see the Aurora Borealis someday.
Micah’s favorite food is pepperoni pizza (Giordano’s deep-dish style in Chicago to be specific). If he could, Micah would put a pizza vending machine in CBA around the corner from his office so he could have pizza whenever he pleased (we think most would get on board with that investment, Micah).
Paula started working at the financial aid office in undergrad and loved the opportunities to interact with students. As a student, she was given the opportunity to teach a class at UNI on the topic of money management. Paula then received a masters degree in Higher Ed and Student Affairs. Her favorite thing about the job, outside of working with students and learning a lot of business, was the curriculum development.
Paula dreams of one day traveling outside of the country because, let’s be real, Canada doesn’t really count. She would like to travel to Europe, specifically Holland. Paula is also interested in England because of her reading of English royalty as a kid. Another bucket list item would be watching all of the Academy Award winners for ‘Best Picture.’ Paula loves movies and never misses one about superheroes. Even though she hates choosing favorites, Inception and Lord of the Rings are definitely up there for all-time favorite movie. One thing she can positively say is a favorite is steak (although her husband would say she lives off of Goldfish and Dr. Pepper).
Career Development and Corporate Relations Director Education Background
- BA in Advertising - University of Nebraska at Kearney
Julie’s first-ever job was a farmhand for her family. She still goes back and helps them with harvest each year, where she’s in charge of driving the auger wagon or the grain cart. Apart from helping out on the farm, Julie’s favorite thing to do with her free time is read and exercise. She would read three books a week if she had the time. For exercise, running is her go-to. Julie participated in the market-to-market run from Lincoln to Omaha (way to go Julie!).
Other things Julie enjoys are her mom’s famous French dip sandwich, watching her 18-month-old son grow and develop, and traveling. Her dream is to visit the United Kingdom and see where her family came from. And while overseas, she would visit other parts of Europe.
If Julie had a million dollars, she would invest most of the money into stocks and bonds. That is, of course, after buying high-heels and purses, as well as Red Wings hockey tickets for her husband.

Career Development Coordinator
Lark’s proudest accomplishments include her marriage of 20+ years and the networking opportunities for students she has gained through her job. Her best advice to students (and anyone really), is to follow through. If you say you’re going to do something, it’s like making a promise, so make sure to take responsibility and have discipline.
If she could, she would travel 100 years into the future. She wants to see the advancements in technology just like her grandparents did with electricity, cars, telephones, television, and putting a man on the moon. When Lark’s not working, you might find her munching on her favorite dessert, candy coated mint ice cream Klondike bars.
You may know Meagan as the Chick-fil-A cow who did the chicken dance at a Denver Nuggets halftime show in costume. As brave as that seems, Meagan doesn’t consider it the most daring thing she’s ever done. Instead, she believes her most courageous adventure was driving the lower 48 states in 30 days on her own before starting grad school. Ok Meagan that’s pretty bold, you win.
Despite her dance moves and love for adventure, Meagan also enjoys Netflix (Stranger Things, Friends, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Pandora, cheesecake, Steve Irwin, and reading. Her favorite subject was English, so it made sense for her to become an English major. She is passionate about helping Arts and Sciences students realize how their degrees are practical and valuable.
Kristen grew up either wanting to be a veterinarian to help animals or a lawyer so she could make money to argue with people (or so she thought!). Now she gets to help people as a Career Coach for the College of Arts & Sciences. Her favorite part of her current role is the colleagues she works with every day because they’ve made her feel like a part of the UNL community since day one.
Aside from work, Kristen enjoys listening to classical, instrumental music. She also couldn’t go a day without some sort of sweets — whether it’s candy, a cookie, or ice cream (great, now we’re hungry!).
Career Services Coordinator, Omaha
Bonnie crew up wanting to be a pediatric cardiologist surgeon (wow, that’s a mouthful!). She loved ‘big’ words from a young age, which was likely a factor in Bonnie selecting her major: English. Bonnie’s favorite part of her current role is working with so many bright, hard-working students, specifically when she gets to coach them one-on-one.
Work aside, Bonnie is one of six siblings. She loves being part of a big family — it means bigger holiday celebrations, more birthdays, and more cake (we can’t blame you there, Bonnie!). One thing she couldn’t go a day without is coffee.
