Coding Academy offers high school juniors, seniors, and graduating seniors the opportunity to master the skills necessary to build interactive applications using Python that can solve real world problems.
Position Overview
The Tufts University College Pre-College team is seeking a Program Lead for the Coding Academy to support program planning, preparation, and operations.
As a Program Lead, your duties include, but are not limited to:
- Program Planning and Preparation
- Admissions: along with course assistant, review applications, correspond with applicants regarding incorrect information / errors, manage faculty involvement in the application review process, post admission letters, organize students up into groups based on their skill and proficiency levels, administer course changes (if necessary)
- Marketing: review marketing materials, website update suggestions, personal outreach (email and phone calls) to leads and applicants, help develop social media posts and reposts relevant content, writes updates to parents and students during the program
- Hiring/Payroll: confirm guest speakers, support recruitment and hiring of course assistants (as necessary), pass hiring information to the Pre-College team
- Program Materials Prep: set up Canvas, Zoom sessions, and other resources as needed
- Program Planning: support instructors in planning skills workshop sessions and organize Tech Treks, offering students with the opportunity to visit local tech companies complement in-class instruction; see example Coding Academy schedule
- Operations
- Communications: act as main point of contact for program duration, and handle communication with students and families throughout the program
- Scheduling: schedule all necessary trainings and activities
- Program Implementation: implement and oversee sessions, coordinate with participating staff, faculty, and guest speakers, and support with posting grades.
- Orientation / Closing: develop and participate in opening day and closing day activities
Time Commitment
Program Planning
The Program Lead can expect to work an average of 2-3 hours per week during the spring semester for pre-program planning. Planning includes mandatory monthly Program Lead meetings, times to be coordinator with the supervisor for other planning work.
- Total Program Planning: up to 30 hours estimated between April-June 2024
Program Implementation
The Coding Academy will take place for 2 weeks during the summer from July 21 to August 2, 2024.
The Program Lead can expect to work up to 40 hours per week during program hours and prep time coordinated with the supervisor.
- Program Dates: July 21 to August 2, 2024 (2 weeks)
- Program Hours:
- Monday-Friday 9 am to 5 pm
- Please note that program implementation hours are on-campus.
- Total Program Implementation: 80 hours estimated
Compensation
The Program Lead will be paid $30/hour for all hours worked for program planning and program implementation.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills (written and verbal)
- Adept critical thinking, process development, and operationalization. Strong attention to detail
- Excellent project management skills, prioritization abilities and navigation of tight deadlines
- Proficiency and previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred
- Previous experience in research and/or program management preferred
- Experience with coding and/or using Python preferred
- Previous experience working with high school aged students preferred
