Remote Temporary Employment Opportunity – School of Medicine: Lane Medical Library
Lane Medical Library is currently seeking a part-time web designer who can work on a project basis to enhance the design and user experience of our website and web products. This position is eligible for remote work. Core business hours for collaboration and meetings will be 9 am to 3 pm PST. The role is temporary and part-time.
Schedule: Monday – Friday; The expected workload is approximately 15 hours a week.
Work Agreement: Fully remote
Core Duties:
● Create and convey attractive, functional user experiences that inspire (de novo as well and systems in need of a refresh)
● Present and revise design ideas based on stakeholder interviews, usage data analysis, and best practices
● Prototype interfaces using design tools and/or web application programming
● Create wireframes, process flows, user personas, and journey maps
● Recommend and implement improvements related to the overall organization, usability, and effectiveness of web properties as they age and evolve
● Seamlessly translate technical requirements back into user functional requirements and vice versa
● Create and maintain design documentation for the library website
● Occasionally assist with graphic design projects to enhance library branding
Education and Experience (Required):
Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science or Human-Computer Interaction) and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required):
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Clear understanding of web standards and usability methods.
● Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
● Strong aesthetic sense, understanding of typography, colors, appreciation of negative.
● Ability to generate a variety of design ideas and effectively communicate their strengths and drawbacks.
● Familiarity with web publishing tools.
● Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and related website development technologies and software.
● Knowledge of multimedia and design.
● General knowledge of office applications.
Desired Qualifications:
● Knowledge of universal design principles and a strong understanding of user experience design
● Expertise using prototyping tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, or Sketch
● Proficiency in modern web technologies including responsive interfaces, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript
● Knowledge of accessibility standards and demonstrated ability to modify designs and existing web applications to meet those standards
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
● Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues and facilitate collaboration
This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $33.17 – $54.81 per hour.
