This position will report to the Director of Strategic Communications & Engagement (DSCE). The NSRI Data Analyst Intern is responsible for identifying and analyzing data across the institute to help determine metrics that can be used to better communicate NSRI’s mission impact. This position will work closely with the DSCE to prioritize their efforts, determine and execute organizational methods and bring forward an ongoing process that will be efficient for the institute to use after the internship has concluded.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) at one of the four University of Nebraska System campuses (UNK, UNL, UNMC, UNO)
- Standing GPA of 3.5+
- Due to the nature of the work at NSRI, this position will require U.S. citizenship
Duties & Responsibilities
Specific tasks will include:
- Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
- Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
- Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems
- Work with management to prioritize business and information needs
- Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
Required Knowledge, Technical Skills and/or Abilities
- Proven working experience in collecting and analyzing data
- Superb writing skills
- Proficient Excel skills
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills
- Extremely self-motivated
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
- Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc)
- BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics
