PAY RANGE: $21.00 – $26.00
Co-op Positions are for Fall of 2024. Fall positions are usually from end of May through mid-December.
Scheduled Work Hours: Flexible hours, 4-day week from Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant, Burlington, KS. Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible co-ops to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing.

As an Engineering Co-op, you’ll have real responsibilities, and you’ll work on productive assignments with actual business interactions. We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns, and more.
Co-op Description:
These positions provide students a realistic engineering experience supporting the safe and efficient operation of a nuclear power plant. Student Engineers are matched with an experienced technical mentor and assigned meaningful real-world engineering projects. There are opportunities for Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Nuclear and Chemical Engineering Students.in a variety of Engineering Teams. This is an engineering student position requiring completion of Sophomore Year (60 Hours)prior to start of employment.
⦁ Strategic Engineering Team – Responsible for trending and monitoring critical plant systems, long range planning, troubleshooting and evaluating plant equipment performance, performing system walkdowns and recommending improvement items to plant leadership.
⦁ Design Engineering Team – Responsible for developing and reviewing projects directly related to plant design such as modification packages, calculations, engineering specifications, design analyses and vender supplied documents.
⦁ Support Engineering Team – Responsible for implementing and maintaining programs such as ASME code required testing code, Flow Accelerated Corrosion inspections, valve testing, predictive maintenance testing and troubleshooting plant equipment.
⦁ Nuclear Engineering Team – Responsible for supporting plant operations, monitoring and tracking reactor core performance, thermal heat balances, probability risk assessments and reviewing core designs.
⦁ Strategic Projects Engineering Team – Responsible for field engineering support on major plant modifications and projects.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Second, third- or fourth-year student actively pursuing a degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Civil, Chemical)
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred. Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Normal office working conditions. Ability to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure required. Occasionally some additional hours or weekends may be required. Must have excellent work record including good attendance.
