Trying New Things: Maddie Weber’s Summer Internship

Maddie Weber, a UNL sophomore double-majoring in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Communications and Agronomy, is preparing to take off to Missouri this summer for an internship opportunity.

UNL sophomore Maddie Weber.

Starting this May in St. Louis, Maddie will be a Communications and Investor Relations Intern for the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA). She will be responsible for assisting the association’s social media efforts, website, podcast content, press releases, investor reports, and other tasks.

“I’m most excited for the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for NCGA’s annual Corn Congress. I’ll get to meet state and national leaders and see the work NCGA is doing firsthand. But mostly, I’m looking forward to the internship overall,” said Weber. “This position is the perfect way to connect the things I’m learning in both my agronomy and my agriculture communications classes.”

Weber found this opportunity on Handshake while she was preparing for the University Fall Career Fair. It just so happened that the Nebraska Corn Board also had a booth at the fair, allowing Weber to follow up about the position in person. Handshake, however, wasn’t the only career development resource that Weber used to help her journey!

“I’ve used Career Services here at UNL many times! The first time was to prepare for the career fair in the fall. I used the Job Search Guide and met with a Peer Career Coach to fine-tune my resume. Once I learned more about internships I wanted to apply for, I met with Stephanie Osterthun. She gave me tips to write the best cover letter and helped me cater my resume to the specific job I was applying for. Meeting with a career coach is something I would recommend to any student applying for a job or internship. Sometimes the technicalities of the job application process can be a little confusing, and she helped make it easier,” said Weber.

Maddie doesn’t know exactly what she wants to do after graduation, but she’s using internships like this one to build up her career journey!

Outside of her studies, Weber is involved in the Massengale Senate, the Agronomy Club, and she is also a member of Signa Alpha, a professional agriculture sorority on campus.
